Sean Woods Gets Suspended For Crossing The Line.

Sean Woods, the head basketball coach at Morehead State was recently suspended for one game after he pushed and berated one of his players following a time out in a game vs Kentucky.  I watched the video and immediately knew that this was going to get ugly quick.. The coach was obviously upset at his player for a mistake or missed assignment on the court but in my opinion he clearly crossed the line when he began to put his hands on the player then continued to berate him on the bench.  Coach Woods was suspended for one game and was required to release a public apology to his team and to the Morehead State community but I am wondering if this was enough?  Should he be fired for his actions or was this just a case of a coach letting his passion for the game get the best of him.  Interested to hear your opinion.  Click on the link to read more about the incident that caused the Coach a one game suspension : Morehead State news article.

Thought I would throw in a few of Frank Martin's greatest hits as a bonus to this post.  Have a great weekend! Go Miners!

Jack Taylor Goes Off For 138 in Game.

Jack Taylor was the talk of the sports world this week after scoring 138 points in a game between Grinnell College and Faith Baptist Bible.  The final score in the shooting fiesta was Grinnell 179 and Faith 104.  The crazy thing is a player for Faith actually went off and scored 70 points for his team in a losing effort.
Heard tons of criticism aimed at the coaches of both squads and plenty of people are saying that the accomplishment is tarnished and a disgrace to the true nature of the game.
I would love to see the complete game for myself before I make any judgments.  For now I will just wait and see if the kid can break the 200 mark in his next game.

Jazzy's Thankful List 2012

Asked my nine year old daughter what  ten things she was grateful for this Thanksgiving and this is what she came up with:

1.My dog Murphy
2. My new baby sister Emmalyn
3. My Brother ( I guess)
4. Mom and Dad
5. Animals
6. Family
7. Teachers
8. Friends
9. Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez
10. Corndogs

Gotta love my Jazz.  Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

El Paso Thanksgiving Parade 2012

It is amazing how fast time flies.  Here we are at another Thanksgiving parade with what seems like a million other El Pasoans getting ready to continue a holiday tradition.  I am thankful that we found a great spot this year and didn't have to camp out for a few nights just to get a decent look at a float.  My wife Jess is great at keeping calm in situations like this and always tends to make the experience a good one.
We have been coming to the parade for the past nine years and we are glad that this has become a part of our Thanksgiving tradition.  Our little Emmy is with us for her first parade and so far hasn't been freaked out by clowns or 300 lb guys in lucha libre masks.
El Paso is a great place to raise our family and we are lucky to call this place home.  Have an awesome Thanksgiving.
Here are my five tips for surviving an El Paso Thanksgiving parade:
1.  Don't wear any football jersey other than a Cowboys jersey.  Seems like they take the Boys pretty serious around here.
2. Bring a chair.  While most people settle for the ones you buy at Academy we have seen a couch or two and even some of Grandma' s patio furniture. Pick your poison.
3.  Don't be alarmed and discouraged by the large crowds.  People in El Paso are the friendliest on earth.  Smile and eventually someone will let you have a spot.
4.  Bring a heavy jacket and a pair of shorts.  El Paso weather around this time is about as unpredictable as Toni Romo on gameday.
5.  Have a good attitude.  Not everyone has been trained in proper parade etiquette.  Don't sweat small stuff.  Remember it's Thanksgiving.

Lady Rangers vs. Eastlake in First District Game

The Lady Rangers open up our 2012-2013 district season with the Eastlake Falcons tonight at Riverside High School.  We are 2-3 this season and are coming off a loss to a great Bel Air team in the Championship game of the Horizon Tourney.  Naomi Vela and Alejandra Armemdariz were named to the all-tournament team.
The Riverside boys will face El Dorado tonight making for a full night of basketball at RHS.
Boys tip-off at 6pm and the ladies follow at around 7:30 pm.

UTEP Men and Women In 2012 Thanksgiving Tournaments

Great to see the UTEP women basketball team off to a great 4-0 start this year but sad to see the injuries to Jenzel Nash and senior center Kristine Vitola.  The Lady Miners will be playing in the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas this Thanksgiving and should be able to make some noise in their bracket if they can work together to help offset those big injuries.  The Miners will play Texas Southern on Thanksgiving Day at 2pm and then face Pac-12 power Arizona at 5pm on Friday.  Texas Southern is 1-2 on the year and Arizona is 4-0.

UTEP Women Playing In Bahamas
The UTEP men travel to Orlando, Florida this week to play in the Old Spice Classic.  The men will face Oklahoma on Thanksgiving day at 5pm then will meet the winner of Gonzaga and Clemson the following day.  The tournament should be a great chance for the young Miners to pick up some great experience and hopefully come away with a few quality wins that could come in handy come tournament selection time. I have really been impressed with the play of the young Miner Chris Washburn.  This kid can flat out play. There is no doubt in my mind that  Tim Floyd will get these guys clicking and ready for Conference USA play in January.
