Netherlands steals one from Mexico

Witnessed a heartbreaking loss by Mexico at the feet of the Netherlands today in the World Cup. Dos Santos lifted the hopes and spirits of every Mexican soccer fan with a beautiful goal in the second half but the Netherlands would not go away quietly.  A huge controversial penalty called in the final minutes ultimately decided the match in favor of the Dutch 2-1.

This was a great World Cuo for Mexico.  Great run to get to the round of sixteen. Now time to see if the U.S. can get the big win on Tuesday vs. a talented Belgium team.

World Cup Madness

Great game this morning between Iran and Argentina. Beautiful defensive display by the Iranians to confuse the Argentina attack but in the end it was all for naught as Messi punched in the winning goal.

Game two of the day is just as good as Germany and Ghana are locked in a 2-2 tie. Live the energy that Ghana plays with. Tenacious attack. Hoping Germany pulls it out to help the U.S. chances of advancing.

This has been a great World Cup so far. I have watched more soccer in these past few days  than I have watched in my entire life. Looking forward to seeing U.S and Portugal tomorrow. Understanding why this is affectionately called The Beautiful Game.

UTEP Softball vs. Middle Tennessee

My daughter Jazzy and I spent yesterday afternoon catching our first Utep softball game of the season. The Miners took on Middle Tennessee in the first game of a double header.

The Utep bats came to life after the first few innings and led the Lady Miners to a
5-3 victory over the Raiders.

Jazzy loved playing softball bingo and kept track of all the action so she could fill out her bingo  card. The game is a cool way to teach the game and keep kids involved.

The atmosphere is great for a ball game and the facilities make for a comfortable viewing experience.  I think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer facility in Conference USA.

If you are looking for an entertaining way to spend time with your family head on over to the Helen of Troy Softball Complex and catch the Lady Miners in action.  The next home game will be April 26th vs the Roadrunners of UTSA.

UTEP VS RUTGERS IN WNIT CHAMPIONSHIP

What an anazing run for coach Keitha Adams and the Utep Lady Miners in the WNIT tournament.  I had a feeling this season could be a special one but am blown away at how great things have turned out for the Lady Miners basketball program.
This run in rhe tourney and the overwhelming support they  have received from the El Paso community will definitely help with recruiting in the future. It is great to see women's basketball get a chance to be in the spotlight.
The mountain before them is great today. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are 27-9 this year and are lead by legendary coach C. Vivian Stringer.
No matter the outcome the Lady Miners have made the great city of El Paso proud.  Go Miners! Time to bring a championship home.

Butterflies are Free at El Paso Community College

I hope to be able to make it out to see the EPCC production of Butterflies are Free by Leonard Gershe next weekend.  The production will close out the EPCC season and will be the last show directed by Hector Serrano.
The comedy runs April 4-13. Showtimes are 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 pm on Sundays.
The theatre is located on the EPCC Transmountain Campus, 9570 Gateway North.  Tickets are $15.  Box Office: 831-5056.

Chihuahuas Win Opener!

I spent my Thursday evening with my headphones on and my radio tuned to 600 ESPN to hear the opening game of the El Paso Chihuahuas 2014-2015 season. Tim Hagerty did a great job of bringing all the action to life and the Chihuahuas came away with a 7-5 victory over the Reno Aces.
This is a great time to be a sports fan in the Sun City. The Chihuahuas have opened their season with a solid win. The Lady Miners are in the championship game of the WNIT and the Rhinos are making noise in the Thorne Cup hockey finals.
Life  in El Paso just keeps getting better and better.

El Paso Roller Derby

Sun City Roller Girls presents The Rolling Dead at Buchanans event center 11540 Pellicano.  Match is between the Sexecutioners and Las Diablas and is scheduled for April 13th at 5pm.
We have never been to a roller derby match before but think the kids would get a kick out of it.  Definitely a cool way to spend a night out with the family.
Tickets are $10 at the door and kids 12 and under get in for free. Aftermath  performs at the half. Matches start at 6.
Experience El Paso!

Dancing In The City 2013

Music Under The Stars 2013

If you are looking for a great event to take the entire family to this summer in El Paso look no further than the Music Under The Stars series at the Chamizal.  The City of El Paso has booked some great acts for the 30th anniversary of Music Under The Stars this summer.  The music series kicks off on June 6th with Frontera Bugalu.  The concerts starts every Sunday at 7:30pm  and usually are done by 9:30 pm.

I am looking forward to catching Rosco Bandana and Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds. Started listening to these two groups when the schedule was announced and know fellow El Pasoans won't be disappointed with their performance.  Glad that the organizers are starting to think out of the box a little and are starting to bring a wide variety of acts for the concert series.  The  concert has always been one of our favorite things to do as a family in the summer and this year we hope to catch every single show.

Nice article in the El Paso Times (click link above)  about one of our outstanding team leaders.  Proud of her and the rest of the players on our squad for the way they have battled on the court this year.   Go Rangers.

Johnny Manziel Heisman Highlight Video

Great to see the freshman phenom from Texas A&M walk away with the Heisman trophy this past weekend. Johnny Football has been great for college football this year and has turned tons of people into Aggie fans. We just might have to make a trip to College Station to see him take on UTEP next year. We will be rooting for him and the Aggies when they face Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl on January 4.
